Open to Members and Their Guests

The Union League Club is a private club, open to Members and their Guests. Reciprocal members may gain access to the Club by arranging a Letter of Introduction with their home club. The Clubhouse is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., including weekends. After 12:30 a.m. admittance may be permitted only to overnight guests.

  • Decorum
    • Members and guests should dress in a manner respectful of the Club’s traditional values and its membership. Members are at all times responsible for ensuring that guests are aware of and comply with the Club’s dress code.

      Jackets and collared shirts are required for gentlemen and appropriate equivalent dress is required for women throughout all areas of the Clubhouse. Jackets and ties are available for members and guests to borrow while visiting the Clubhouse. Ties are required only during dinner hours in the Mary Murray Room and Lounge and at evening committee events, except where the event announcement states otherwise. Jackets may be removed when playing billiards.

      Beginning Fridays at 4:00 pm, members and guests are expected to dress in a manner respectful of the membership and the Club. Jackets are not required but collared shirts are for gentlemen. Dressy denim and athletic shoes are permitted. Women should dress accordingly. Leggings, sweats, and athletic clothing are not permitted outside of the Fitness Center.

      WEEKEND ATTIRE MEMORIAL DAY THROUGH LABOR DAY

      Dress shorts such as Bermuda style or golf shorts are permitted.

      OTHER

      Members are at all times responsible for ensuring that their guests are aware of and comply with the Club’s dress code. Private event hosts may, at their discretion, permit “business casual” attire in those rooms rented exclusively for their event. Jeans are not permitted. Hats and coats must be checked in at the Coat Room on the Ground Floor or kept in overnight rooms. Hand luggage is not permitted in the Union League Café, Bar & Lounge, Main Dining Room, Mary Murray Room, or Main Lounge. Members and guests going to or from the outside to overnight rooms, the Fitness Center, or squash courts are not required to comply with the dress code but are expected to be respectful of the Clubhouse, the membership and our guests. Proper attire is to be maintained in the Presidents’ Room. Jackets may be removed upon entry.

  • Etiquette
    • Business Papers & Mobile Electronics 

      The limited and discreet use of personal and business papers in the Club’s dining facilities at breakfast and lunch is permitted so long as it does not interfere with the peaceful enjoyment of facilities by members and guests.

      All electronic devices are to be placed on silent mode, volume off, video recording off, upon entry to the Clubhouse. Cell phone conversations are restricted to telephone booths and private rooms. Other than phone conversations, the use of smart phones and tablet computers is permitted throughout the Clubhouse so long as their use does not interfere with the peaceful enjoyment of the facilities by fellow members and guests.

      For the privacy of all members, video recording is not permitted throughout the Clubhouse or during member events. Exceptions for private events must be approved in advance by the Secretary.

      Social Media

      To protect the privacy of the Club, posting on social media websites such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. is strenuously discouraged and should never include images of other members or guests without their consent. All posts, public or private, are subject to the Club’s rules and regulations and must not be invasive into Club business, property, or staff, or negatively affect the Club’s brand or image. Usage of the Club’s name, logo, or recognizable assets is always prohibited.

      Tipping Policy 

      The Union League Club has a “No Tipping” Policy that applies to all members and guests.

  • Reciprocal Members
    • Usage & Letters of Introduction 

      With the approval of the Board, the House Committee shall have the power to establish and terminate reciprocal arrangements with other clubs. The members of reciprocal clubs shall be extended all the privileges of the Clubhouse (except the Business Center as noted below). Use of Union League Club facilities by reciprocal club members is restricted to twenty-four days per year. A letter of introduction must be on file with the Front Desk in advance of use. Visitors from reciprocal clubs must comply with all House Rules. The House Committee is empowered to revoke reciprocal club privileges at its discretion.

      Visitors from reciprocal clubs are required to sign in at the Front Door, indicating clearly their name, home address, and the name of their home club, and then will be issued a guest card. Local residents who are non-resident members of reciprocal clubs shall not be extended any privileges of the Clubhouse.

      Validation is required at The Union League Club front door for the prices listed above. Please notify the garage when more than ten cars are expected. The specific rates listed above are per an informal arrangement and subject to change by the garage at anytime. The Club has no ownership or authority over the garage, and any questions or disputes should be handled directly with them.
